GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. (AP) -- A suburban Detroit library system says it's keeping copies of a free weekly newspaper behind the counter following complaints about sexually explicit advertisements in the publication.

The Detroit Free Press reports (http://on.freep.com/1ohrgWq ) the Grosse Pointe Library Board voted 7-0 Thursday to stack the Metro Times out of sight instead of in library vestibules.

Patrons of the system's three libraries will have to ask for copies. Distribution will be "at the discretion of the librarian," according to the resolution, and the Free Press reports only those 18 and older or accompanied by an adult are likely to get one.

Metro Times Editor-in-Chief Valerie Vande Panne says the ads are no more sexually explicit than many of the books on library shelves.

The libraries serve residents of the five Grosse Pointe communities.
