#22STRONG: Isaac Kolstad becomes father for 2nd time, continues recovery

Posted: Updated:
MANKATO, Minn. (KMSP) -

As Isaac Kolstad’s family continues to pray for his recovery, they are celebrating the arrival of their newest member.

Molly Kolstad delivered the couple’s second daughter, Malia, on Wednesday. Mom and baby are both said to be doing well, and the couple's 3-year-old daughter, Hayden, is thrilled to be a big sister.

Malia weighed 8.6 pounds and measured 21.5 inches when she was born, and her family says she's just one more reason for her father to stay #22strong.

ISAAC UPDATE

Isaac Kolstad has been diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis – a clot that can occur when a patient is bedridden for some time. The danger of DVT is that they can dislodge and become embedded in the heart or lungs, causing a potentially-fatal pulmonary embolism.

Kolstad, a former linebacker at Minnesota State University, was critically injured in an assault in Mankato in early May. He was placed in a medically-induced coma, but has slowly been showing signs of recovery.

DONATE: YouCaring fund for Kolstad Family

So far, the fund has raised nearly $70,000. There is also a blood drive in Kolstad's honor set to take place at the National Guard Training and Community Center in Mankato next Tuesday.
