MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

After halting demolition of the Metrodome last week, work continued Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. The remaining ring beam was demolished with controlled explosive charges, similar to how the roof cables were severed.

The ring beam and corners of the Metrodome were brought down with 84 charges of dynamite set in 24 columns of the upper concourse.

"Mission accomplished," John Wood, Senior Vice President of Mortenson Construction said. "The ring beam is on the ground just as planned. The event was safe, no one was hurt and there was no property damage."

A ring beam came down out of sequence on Monday, causing the demolition plan to be revised according to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority.

A number of roads were closed to create a safety perimeter for the demolition. Those temporary closures began at 5:30 a.m. and will remained until the all clear signal was given.
