Wolves hot starts key to undefeated record

Posted: Updated:

When Flip Saunders and Rick Adelman began to form this years Timberwolves roster, this had to be exactly what they imagined. A 3-0 team that comes out of the gate fast, scores buckets in bunches in the first quarter, then settles in defensively and plays with poise down the stretch.

In three games the Wolves have outscored their opponents 112-65 including a 40-19 lead after their only road game that came Sunday at Madison Square Garden. Kevin Love and Kevin Martin scored 34 and 30 points each with Martin finishing a perfect 5-for-5 from three point range in the 109-100 win over the Knicks.

Defensively, the Wolves followed up their masterful performance over Kevin Durant on Friday with three solid quarters against the Knicks. New York made a big run in the fourth quarter shrinking a once 20 plus point lead down to four points, but Martin's three pointer with four minutes left in the game doused the Knick rally.

The Wolves are 3-0 for just the second time in franchise history. The 2001-2002 squad was 6-0 before losing their first game. The team will try to remain hot tonight as they travel to Cleveland to face the Cavs.
