DETROIT (WJBK) -

Flames engulfed a home in Detroit's Boston-Edison neighborhood Wednesday, destroying the massive structure in one of the city's most historic districts.

Fire officials say crews arrived on scene around 4:30 a.m. on Longfellow Street near Woodward. Seven people were inside when the fire broke out, but all were able to escape without injury.

One of the residents, a man from New Orleans who called himself 'Ted,' says he and a group of artists were staying at the home while helping with a local art project.

Crews believe the fire started in home's third floor.

The exact cause is still under investigation.
