NORTHVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Inge Zayti, the founder of the Marquis Theatre in Northville, passed away on July 29.

Miss Inge, as she was affectionately known, was a staple in the community and in the building she loved with all her heart. She bought the Marquis in 1971 and restored it in 1978.

"We're going to keep it going, absolutely. She would not want us to stop," said daughter Christina Zayti.

"Everywhere you look around, she's made the decisions from the color of the paint to the costumes to everything," said stage manager Karen Howe.

Her many summer camps made dreams come true.

"You can just see the love, the kids when they're up there on stage. That's what I think she loved, to see that smiling," Christina Zayti said.

Over the weekend, the Marquis became the perfect send off site for Zayti just like she would have wanted. Hundreds attended her funeral sharing many memories and honoring her both near and far.

"We have so many kids from the Marquis that are in Chicago, California, New York, all over, and yesterday at 1:30, all the Marquis kids in New York City went under the marquee on 46th Street and made a tribute to my mom," Christina Zayti said.

Zayti was a very patriotic person. You can tell from a huge mural at the back of the theater. We were told one of the first things they plan to do is to refurbish it in her memory.
