Lottery not lucky for Wolves; team remains with 9th overall pick

Posted: Updated:

The Timberwolves entered the 2013 NBA Draft Lottery with the most likely scenario staying put at the number nine pick based on their record. That was exactly the result as the Wolves failed to move up for the 15th time in their history.

President of Basketball Operations, Flip Saunders and forward Kevin Love represented the team in New Jersey and once again watched as the ping pong balls failed to fall their way once again. The Wolves came into the lottery with only a 6.11 percent chance at landing a top three spot and the 81.31 percent chance of remaining ninth held true.

In a flat draft with few immediate impact players, the Wolves look to add another piece to an injury riddled puzzle. The Wolves need a shooting guard and have spent the better part of the last decade filling that position with duct tape, three paper clips and a nine volt battery.

Victor Oladipo is the biggest name at that position but will be long gone by the time the Wolves pick at nine. In a draft where there isn't a true superstar, there are several working theories and mock drafts that have the team taking guard C.J. McCollum, a lights out shooter out of Lehigh. Never heard of the Mountain Hawks? No worries, you are not alone. They did upset Duke in the NCAA tournament in 2012. McCollum led the way with 30 points, six assists, seven rebounds and two steals.

The NBA Draft takes place June 27th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
