FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Three generations of the Kourtesis family have owned and operated the New Way Bar in Ferndale from humble black and white beginnings to color high definition televisions on the wall, but now it's last call.

"It's a sad day, that's for sure," said Tina Kourtesis.  "We just meet all different kinds of interesting people.  I mean [there are] all different walks of life that come through here."

"The bands throughout the years... they're just great people.  They're like my friends, my family."

Starting Thursday, the bar will be under new ownership, and regulars Bill, Al and Steve are hoping nothing changes too drastically.

"I'm going to come back here.  The memories will always be here," said Al.

"It's been a great place to hang out in the afternoons, talk with friends," Steve remarked.

The bartender hopes he still has a gig after nine years.

"People can kind of come in here and relax.  It's kind of like an offbeat Cheers kind of thing with entertainment at night," said Eric Ranspach.

As for soon-to-be former owner Gus Kourtesis, he said, "It's been a nice run with a lot of nice people, but it's time for me to move on."

The all day, all night goodbye party commences Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.
