DETROIT, Mich (WKJBK) -- Police say 26-year-old David Welsh stopped in this party store.  At some point he lost his keys. However, it turns out the wrong person found them and stole the car and a sick dog in the back seat.

"I am a nurse.  I've worked at Hutzel Hospital and I know from experience that there are angels in Detroit and I am hoping one of them will help us with her." says Wagner.

Debbie Wagner of Dearborn called Fox 2 for help. Her dog Huna had been missing for a day and a half....stolen along with the car she was in-- parked at this party store on Detroit's West Side.

"I don't know if the person that took the car knew she was there.  I don't know if they would leave her in the car and abandon the car or if they would just put her out on the street," says Wagner.

Debbie, a long time nurse, said Huna needs around the clock care.  The 8 month old Bull Mastiff suffers from kidney disease.

"She drinks several gallons of water a day.  So she needs frequent access to water.  And she is also on medication to help her with her kidney problem.  So I'm afraid that if it takes too long to find her the toxins will build in her body and she won't be able to function," says Wagner.

Fox 2 started calling our contacts at DPD and the commercial auto theft squad ... but Huna was nowhere to be found.

Then halfway through our Fox 2 investigation we got a call from Debbie that Huna had been found and was safe and Debbie was on her way to bring Huna back home.

"They found her in an alley. Some AT&T workers were doing some maintenance work and they saw her and they checked her collar found a number on it and gave me a call right away."

Wagner was asked if this proves her theory about angels being in Detroit?

"Yes, it does. I think there is a good chance that someone did help her along the way 'cause I don't believe that she would be in that good of shape," says Wagner.

Police are still searching for the stolen 1998 Grand Marquis David Welsh was driving.  It's silver with a dark gray hood and the license plate BTP 7485.

Debbie says she's learned her lesson ..no more road trips for this puppy.  She has no ill feelings toward the people who stole her.. she's just glad Huna is back home.
