The Wolves defeated the Dallas Mavericks 90-82 on the road Monday night but lost yet another player to injury in the process. The hits to the already injury depleted roster keep coming as center Nikola Pekovic came down on Dallas guard Vince Carter's foot late in the third quarter. Pekovic tallied 20 points for his team before leaving with the injury.
With Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love yet to play a game and Brandon Roy and Pekovic now injured, the only starter left standing is Andrei Kirilenko, and has he delivered. Playing in a season high 44 minutes, the 11 year vet was solid posting his second consecutive double-double scoring 16 points and leading the team with 11 rebounds.
With a continuous line of injuries, the one consistent to this team who are off to the second best season start in franchise history is on the defensive end. The Wolves are allowing opponents an average of 88.4 points per game and 40.8 percent shooting. Both are second in the league behind the New York Knicks.
They held the Mavs to just eight field goals in the fourth quarter.
Dante Cunningham scored 16 points while Luke Ridnour tossed in 15 and Alexi Shved 14 in the win.
Dallas has injury issues of their own playing without Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion struggled in the first quarter scoring only 17 points. The Mavs were led by Darren Collison with 21 points.
The Wolves return home Wednesday night as they will host Charlotte at Target Center. The Wolves are 3-0 at home and the Bobcats (2-3) have yet to win on the road.
