Gameday Preview: Wolves vs. Kings

Posted: Updated:

After watching every other team in the Western Conference play (including San Antonio and the Lakers twice, the Wolves open their season against the Sacramento Kings at Target Center.

Difference Maker:

While we are looking at an 82 game season and win or lose head coach Rick Adelman isn't going to lose sleep tonight if his squad doesn't win. There is a bit more pressure to get off to a good start. With no Kevin Love or Ricky Rubio until December, the first 20-25 games are big.

New Look Wolves:
With Brandon Roy and Andrei Kirilenko new faces in the starting lineup, both will need to play huge roles. With Kevin Love out, Derrick Williams will most likely get the start tonight at the power forward position.

Key Matchup- Nikola Pekovic vs. DeMarcus Cousins
Two big bullies will go at it. Pekovic is sitting on a huge season but Cousins is one of the few NBA centers who can match brute strength with Pek. DeMarcus has improved his overall game including extending his range from outside. Who wins the battle on the boards between the two will be a story in the game.

Probable Starters:

  Timberwolves Sacramento Suns
PG Luke Ridnour Isaiah Thomas
SG Brandon Roy Tyreke Evans
SF Andrei Kirilenko James Johnson
PF Derrick Williams Jason Thompson
C Nikola Pekovic DeMarcus Cousins
