MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he will give up to $125,000 of his own money to the campaign to defeat the Minnesota marriage amendment.
Bloomberg's donation is part of a $500,000 pledge on gay marriage campaigns in Maine, Minnesota and Washington. Bloomberg has pledged a total of $325,000 to groups backing ballot initiatives that would legalize gay marriage in Maine and uphold it in Washington.
The mayor announced a $250,000 contribution to a Maryland gay marriage initiative earlier this month.
Last week, Bloomberg said he planned to spend at least $10 million before Election Day promoting ballot measures supporting gay marriage and moderate candidates.
