Basketblog: Elimination edition

Posted: Updated:

Hanging out at Mall of America Field waiting for Vikings v. Cardinals and I am thinking about nothing but basketball. So I thought to myself, 'self, let's to a basketblog'. There are plenty of things to Ponder?

Lynx on the brink:

Not exactly sure what happened to my favorite WNBA team, but they are up against it tonight in game three at Indy. Friday night's contest was a complete cluster. Credit the Fever for taking us out of what we wanted to accomplish and snatching momentum back to their end. I felt really good after we took care of business Wednesday night at TC, but we reverted back to our one-and-done offensive approach.

The Fever look like the younger, hungrier team and it will be tough to force a Game 5 back in our house on Wednesday. The Fever had runs of 11-0, 12-0 and 13-0 in the first, second and third quarters and looked more like the defending champs than we did, and we are the defending champs.

There are about 1,000 cliche's to toss around about tonight, but let's save them. Win tonight and get back home where our crowd will be ready.

Life without Love:

So our main guy Kevin Love broke two bones in his hand doing knuckle pushups? Here's the big question, WHY? What could he possibly gain by doing knuckle crunchers two weeks in front of the season?

Early, I talked about needing to tread water until Rubio returns. Now we are faced with life without Love and while the depth of this team was preached to anyone that would listen, this team will be forced to go without their lone All-Star for at least 15 regular season. Talk of playoffs might have to be parked until next year.

D-Will production:

Derrick Williams was drafted second overall last year and was more lost than found in his rookie season. Now he will get his opportunity to prove he belongs. With Love out, the Wolves need Williams to up his 8.8 points per game average into something more like 15-17.

Two final preseason tests:

Only two games remain before the regular season opens against Sacramento on Friday November 2nd. The game is the first of 25 regular season contests to be aired on My29. So pumped to have the Wolves back in our family and available over the air for those who don't have cable.
