Jerry Sandusky’s effect on coach and teacher relationships with children

Posted: Updated:

Former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky was sentenced Tuesday morning to no less than 30 years and no more than 60 years in prison.

This means the convicted sex offender will die in prison. His actions and his legacy will forever affect the relationship coaches and teachers can have with students and athletes.

The days are over when a coach can drive a player home from practice or the days when a teacher can have one-on-one tutoring with a student.

There are many adults today who say that personal relationships with a coach or teacher changed their life and made them a better person. Now, with everything having to be in a group setting, how much does that affect the positive influence teachers and coaches can have on our kid' lives?

At the same time, not all coaches and teachers are giving up on the important one-on-one time, so how do students protect themselves. It always sounds so easy for kids to speak out, leave if you get uncomfortable -- yet these types of horrible incidents keep happening.
