SARTELL, Minn. (KMSP) -
Fire departments that fought the Verso Paper mill fire that started Memorial Day in Sartell have billed the company $350,000 for company time, labor and equipment use. And that's just billings from 60 of the 93 fire departments that responded to the scene, and fought the fire for more than a week.
Cities that are part of the Central Minnesota mutual aid agreement for emergency services are not charged for the first eight hours of work, but invoices may come after that duration, reports the St. Cloud Times.
Mutual aid covered $61,000 for work during the first eight hours of response. The city of Sartell did not charge for the first day of work.
The mill has not been operating since the explosion and fire that killed a worker, Jon Maus. More than 250 employees are still without work.
