SAVAGE, Minn. (KMSP) -
Friends and loved ones gathered around with the Savage police officer who was critically injured while responding to a call four months ago at a benefit on Saturday night, and FOX 9 News spoke with Officer Frank Mackall about the emotional event.
Mackall suffered a severe brain injury when his car crashed into a tree after hitting a patch of ice in January. He has been in rehabilitation ever since -- and he's doing very well. Now, he is walking, playing with his children, lifting weights and talking.
When he entered the American Legion in Savage on Saturday, Frank the Tank walked in to a standing ovation and more hugs than could be counted.
Mackall's goal is to get back on the job, and he's certainly got plenty of support. The money raised during Saturday's benefit will all go to his family.
